Summer School: Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible for the program?
Students who are currently in the tenth grade at Henninger and Fowler High Schools will be given first priority for Summer School at SU. Students may take only courses they have failed during the school year.
When is Summer School at SU?
Classes begin Wednesday July 7 and run through Tuesday August 16. The Regents Examinations will be held Tuesday August 17 and Wednesday August 18.
What classes will be offered?
Chemistry, U.S. History, English 11, Math 2A, Intermediate Algebra and Math 3 will be offered during this program.
What time will I have to be in class?
First period will begin at 8:05 a.m. every morning and conclude at 9:50 a.m. Second period will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 11:50 a.m.
Is transportation provided for this program?
Transportation is not provided by the Syracuse City School District, and campus parking for cars or bicycles is not available to students. We encourage students to walk, travel by Centro bus, or secure rides.
Do I have to attend all classes?
Yes! Research reveals that regular class attendance and participation is crucial to success on Regents and local standard examinations. Thus attendance at all class sessions is mandatory. Students who are absent or tardy will be dropped from the program.
Will I have to buy any textbooks?
No, Syracuse City School District textbooks will be used in classrooms only. All textbooks will stay on campus.
How do I get my grades?
Report cards will be issued twice during Summer School at SU, July 19th and August 2nd. A postcard will notify students of their final grade(s) at the end of the summer. Grades will be returned to the home school. Home school is defined as the school enrollment June 2004. It is the responsibility of the home school to award credit.
